Shelton to join SI&A’s leadership team

Gerry Shelton, chief education consultant to the California State Assembly, has been named Vice President of Education Policy at School Innovations & Advocacy.

Jeff Williams, SI&A Chief Executive Officer made the announcement, saying Shelton will add enormous experience and skill to the largest consulting and advocacy firm for public schools in California.

Shelton, widely recognized for his depth of policy knowledge across K-12 public education and school finance, held a variety of positions at the California Department of Education from the early 1990s through 2006 - most notably as the CDE's Chief Financial Officer, where he had responsibility over developing the state budget as well as fiscal policy and education finance.

Prior to that, Shelton served on the faculty at the University of California, Davis and later served as an associate professor in economics specializing in state and local government finance and public policy at CSU Sacramento where he taught for 14 years.

As Vice President for Education Policy, Shelton will provide guidance and leadership on education policy and fiscal issues for local school districts and county offices of education in addition to non-profit and private sector clients. He will also play a crucial role in arguably the most qualified and capable education advocacy team in the state.
